I made a silk scarf on my iPad, and you can too!
I made a scarf, and you can too!
The scarf in the picture was a design created using the Procreate app on an iPad Pro, 1st generation. The final scarf design was then sent to the printer, who printed the design on a silk scarf.
There are many ways to create digital designs. My iPad, apple pencil, and Procreate have become my go-to. I still use the computer with Adobe products, such as Illustrator, Photoshop, or Fresco. Each of these creates amazing digital files and can all be used in tandem with each other. Technology has made it fun to design and create products.
Other options include analog, traditional drawing, painting, or other mediums such as ink. The only additional step is to digitize the analog files for digital printing.
Back to the scarf I made on my iPad.
The Procreate document measured 25" x 25" at 300 dpi (dots per inch) 300 dpi is the required measurement for any quality printing. The 25" x 25" measurement was based on the printer's step-by-step guidance and based on the detailed size guide and product dimensions. i.e., silk scarf.
Before even creating this digital design, I questioned myself and wondered what I would make during this project. I had no idea and started randomly placing marks and shapes on the iPad canvas, responding to each as I went. I guess this can be described as "trusting the process."
My inspiration is born out of nature. I love the colors, textures, and shapes I find on my outdoor excursions—primarily hikes, as I have many parks available. Pictures are my friend. I have built a library of images in which to reference.
The Scarf Design Process
Here are a few screenshots of the app experience as I created various ways of modifying the overall design. The scarf size never changed, but the different styles changed greatly. I found a company called The Art of Where https://artofwhere.com/products/accessories/scarves. Followed their instructions on the website and received a beautiful scarf with my new iPad design.
